Sports
Strive to bring out the best performances in within athletes through innovative and functional training methods. Improve their dynamic stability, prevent injuries and prepare them for the unexpected and uncertain.
Advance your sport coaching skills.
The sports stream is perfectly suited for the striving and enthusiastic sports coach, athletic development or strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer or sports physiotherapist. Sometimes we tend to forget that any sport at the end is just a game, played out in a specific environment with specific tasks and rules. During the education stream Sports, we go beyond the basics of the sport itself and look deeper at the underlying movement patterns of which the movements are constructed and how we can improve those in order to improve our sport performance.
Level 1Foundation
Level 2Agility, Running and Overhead
Level 3Advanced
Learn how to apply our principles specifically within your area. Every stream comes with its own L1 foundational workshop. Followed by a few L2 modules that can be picked and chosen depending on the specific needs. And every stream is finished with a L3 advanced course day.
RESEARCH
Scientific research.
The research areas involving dynamic stability are not standing still. There is a lot of movement in these fields and these developments are addressed within the concept of Ultimateinstability. We draw from many different fields of science, from ecology to biomechanics and from neuroscience to robotics. However central to our approach is the Dynamical Systems Theory, an area of mathematics used to describe the behaviour of complex dynamical systems. This theory is more specifically addressed within human movement science as Coordination Dynamics.
Not only have we built our conceptual framework on solid scientific theory, we also have put a lot of effort in enabling scientific studies specifically with the application of our training equipment. Throughout this process we have always been supportive in providing equipment and consultation on its proper use. However these studies are executed by independent scientists without any other conflicts of interest.
“Why do we train so predictable: with fixed exercises, repetitions and weights striving for the perfect movement, while our daily lives are filled with the unexpected and unpredictable?”
Level 1 – Foundation.
The L1 introduction module consists of a balanced mix of theory and practice. During this module you will be introduced to several scientific areas, theories and training concepts behind the use of UI's training materials focused on sport. This allows you to understand the relevance so you can easily transfer it to the sessions with your athletes. In practice you will become acquainted with a few fundamentals and "simple rules" that make your training applications with UI's materials simple and more effective. You also learn the constraint-led approach coaching method. A more "hands off" method that offers you the tools to apply purposeful variability within your training.
Match your needs.
Level 2 – Modules.
During the second level of this stream you can choose a module that matches you specific needs.
-
Agility.
In this module we explore the functional anatomy, biomechanics and neurophysiology of agility. You will learn what patterns and mechanisms are important to optimize the dynamic stability of agility and improve performance. We will explore the role of motor control and variability in agility and suggest applications using our products and methods to improve technique and coordination. During the practical you will analyse agility patterns and learn specific exercises to treat some of the most often occurring issues with step-wise progressions and regressions.
-
Running.
This module explores the functional anatomy and neurophysiology of running. You will learn what patterns and mechanisms are important to optimize the dynamic stability of running and improve performance. We will explore the role of motor control and variability in running and suggest applications using our products and methods to improve technique and coordination. During the practical you will analyse the running pattern and learn specific exercises to treat some of the most often occurring issues with step-wise progressions and regressions.
-
Overhead.
In this module we explore the functional anatomy, biomechanics and neurophysiology of the overhead athlete and in particular of the throwing motion. You will learn what patterns and mechanisms are important to optimize the dynamic stability of throwing and improve performance. We will explore the role of motor control and variability in overhead sports and suggest applications to improve technique and coordination. During the practical you will analyse throwing patterns and learn to apply specific exercises to treat some of the most often occurring issues with step-wise progressions and regressions.
Level 3 – Advanced.
Become a certified UI Master Trainer and learn how to apply the methodologies in your own context and in case studies with elite athletes in all kind of sports. Go beyond the basics of sports during this advanced course day that will extend on the theory and practice of the previous levels. During the course we will work on relevant cases of the participants themselves. A framework is also discussed, which enables you to apply the method to different customers.
